TEDx speaker
Empathy rates among college students are declining at an alarming rate. Students today are, on average, 40% less empathetic than they were in 1979. This represents a serious empathy crisis that has the potential to have a profound impact, not just on our students, but on our country as a whole. This short talk explains the neuroscience of empathy, examines why empathy is so necessary in a functioning society, and discusses why the arts, and arts education, may be the key to eliminating this empathy deficit.
